April showers

Ahhhh, I’m off crutches! It is wonderful to be able to carry your own coffee in the morning. I did have lots of help and I’m grateful for that, but I am so happy to be able to do it myself again.

I am walking around pretty good. My knee does get sore after PT and if I’ve been using it for a while, but I will take it! So far, that only things that I am unable to do are: walk up stairs, jump and run.

Outside it’s sunny and I can hear thunder, I like this time of year – there is always energy in the air.

Tonight is a derby bout, I’m doing the line ups for All Stars and it’s going to be a great match up. The other team is very closely ranked to us, but they “think” they are going to win, I hope there confidence get crushed. (Does that seem mean? Opps – really it’s not, I hope they play a great game, but come on – I want GRRG to win!)

T!ny b.o.o.ty & the crux of crutches

I have a bone to pick with a select few of the public and the manufacture of arena seating.

On Friday, I went to the hockey game, with Aiko and a slew of derby people. I didn’t watch any of the game in the venue. First of all, we were in the nose bleed section and had to walk up about 50 stairs — remember, I’m on crutches. We did it once before the game started, it was fine going up, but going down was a bit disorientating. Then to complicate the issue the seats were tiny! I mean TINY – not like movie theater small but like playschool children small. So I decided I would rather work the booth most of the game (Aiko agreed and wanted to do the same).

Then after the game we went to a bar. Most people are overly attentive to a person on crutches — which at times, has made me uncomfortable — but I am appreciative of it. This crowd was horrible. It may have been due to alcohol or my meek voice (HA!), but trying to maneuver through and isle of standing room only people – on crutches – was over the top frustrating. Finally getting the two tables reserved for GRRG, and finding no room for us to sit. I gave up. Aiko and I sat at a table by ourselves.

Once a spot cleared we joined our group. Then I had a good night. A shot and a beer. ;)

Loaf of Meat

I made my first loaf of meat. Aiko was so happy. He said, “No one’s ever made me loaf of meat”, and it turned out great.

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 cup cracker crumb
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven 325 degrees.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, crumbs, salt, pepper, egg, onion and tomato sauce.
  3. Mix.
  4. Shape into a loaf and place in a baking dish.
  5. In a small mixing bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, water, mustard and vinegar.
  6. Pour mixture over the loaf and place in oven and bake 1 hour and 15 minutes.

After my first attempt, I see now that I should have used a 9×13 glass pan and formed the loaf. I had a little bit of the sauce leftover.

Awake and not happy.

It’s a sad day. I’m awake and it’s 5:56 a.m. and not a school night. There are noises that are keeping me awake, and I can’t get them to go away.

I think today I’m going to go the AT&T store and get my new shiny iPhone. Yay.

Last night was bout, it was fun and tiring. The Attack! lost, but he All-Stars won, both were blow outs — great skating occurred in both. Oh – I’m going to Philly in June for derby, that will be a fun weekend!

I am also trying to ween myself off vicadin. I’m taking Tylenol during the day and the vicadin at night. The Tylenol doesn’t cut all the pain, but at least I can drive. Not being able to drive is literally making me nuts!

Nighty-night — I hope.

iPhone 4me

Today after work, Aiko and I went the AT&T store and I’ve finally made my decision.

I’m going to get an iPhone.

After much polling, research, handling others phones and the with the advice of my friends — the iPhone is for me. I’m very excited. I wonder if I get to pick my own phone number? For those who don’t know, this will be my first cell phone. I know that may seem outrageous, but it’s true. I’ve always said, “If I’m not at work, I’m not at home and you don’t know where I am — then I am unreachable.” It will be odd to have ppl be able to call me wherever I am. I hope I don’t become one of those ppl always checking their phones and texting ppl 24/7, but then again, it could be fun.

O – it will be cool to have camera everywhere I go, I will be happy about that!

Bill the Goat

Today was mostly a good day.

After being locked up in the house for a week and a half, I went out to lunch with my sister. We had Indian buffet. It was good – I am on crutches right now, so my sister loaded a plate for me. I just told her to grab a little of everything. To my surprise there was a dish on the buffet that looked like stew, we tried it. It was disgusting. After we both had a sample, she squints to see what the sign under the chafing dish said – GOAT, then after more squinting it said LIVER.

AHHHHHHHHHH!

The Machine and I are one.

I’ve survived the surgery. I’m now stuck in bed for a couple of weeks. Surprisingly I am not getting bored. I have my laptop, toonces, aiko, tele, phone and the machine to occupy my time.

I am using a Continuous Passive Movement machine. It is this contraption that I am strapped into (literally) and it very slowly moves my leg from 3˚ to 83˚. I bump up the numbers every day, I need to be to 90 on Wednesday and 110 in a month.

Ready for surgery.

For a while now, I’ve been dreading having surgery. But now, after this week, I’m ready to get it over with. My knee/calf/ankle is feeling a little better, but I can not have that feeling of catching and popping in my knee all day again. Someone said to me, that sounds like you are getting cartilage damage – WTF?

My surgery is scheduled first, which is very cool, this means I won’t be delayed and waiting around.

I’m really looking forward to having some time off work! I have been busting my ass to get most of my work done so that I will have 2 weeks off and hopefully when I come back I won’t be swapped with work!

No work for at least 2 weeks – HOT DAMN.

Goodbye sweet Duddley.

He’s gone.

Feb 11 2009

Duddley is home.

He’s home!

So far he is on 2 pills and special food. He hasn’t eaten any of it yet, but he just got home Monday night at 5 pm. Since then – I’ve called the vet and I am picking up the moist version (which he is eating).

I am glad he is home and comfy, he still doesn’t look good. Hopefully, that will change by Saturday, that’s when we take him to the vet for follow-up blood work.

The trick is… how do I keep their food separate? I’m going to try to feed Dudders while I’m in the shower, and Toonces will have the kitchen. This is hard, because I’ve alway had their dishes out, and they would take a few bites here and there. They were on a limited amount of food, but rarely was the dish completely empty.

Toonces is freaking out about this whole ordeal.

Duddley is sleeping.

I also invested in a cat fountain, which so far seems to be going over well. I have seen Duddley drink out of it twice! I am not sure about Toonces, but I still have the regular water bowls out. I must say, this cat fountain is pretty lux, and if I were four legged and furry, I’d be all about it!
